Faith, Food & Fitness

Faith

I believe there is an intricate relationship between the desire and ability to care for oneself and the faith he or she has. Faith has been defined as the, "complete trust or confidence in someone or something." Biblically, the writer of Hebrews 11:1 (KJV) states, "...faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Without faith, that critical hope, it can be difficult to abandon lifelong unhealthy behaviors, escape addiction or lose a seemingly impossible amount of weight.  Effective weight loss, weight maintenance and overall healthy living, require hope and confidence in the ability to succeed. Eating nutritiously and being physically active demands the same strength and trust in God as all other areas of life.  We must look to the Lord for everything and realize that our bodies are not our own. The body is the temple of God (1 Corinthians 6:19). We are only stewards over that which He has given us. If you are a Believer, prove yourself to be a good and faithful servant over the precious earthly vessel He has entrusted to you. Tend to the total upkeep of the temple of God.

We delight in knowing that Jesus is the living water and the bread of life, we shall never thirst or go hungry-Glory to God! We also know that the Lord acknowledges our need for physical food and water to nourish our human bodies (Matthew 6:31-32).  I believe food is a blessing as is the body. As a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, I encourage and personally practice a plant-based diet primarily consistent of natural, whole foods such as vegetables and fruits. Lets work together to nourish our bodies with delicious and nutritious foods.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that more than one-third of American adults are obese.  Obesity is related to multiple health conditions including diabetes, heart disease and some cancers. Physical activity and eating nutritiously are critical components of healthy living.  Both exercise and healthy eating habits help achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

The Lord reminds His followers they are salt to the earth and light in the midst of darkness (Matthew 5:13-16). As a follower of Jesus Christ, I know I must do my due diligence to live a life that will glorify my Father's name and help my fellow man. Therefore, I hope to be that salt and light to those who may be struggling in the areas of physical and spiritual wellness.
